ANTS SCHOOLHOUSE · COMBAT FUNCTION

Skills & Roles

A Special Ant's season or troop class tells only part of the story. Skills describe what the ant actually does; role describes the job those skills perform inside a formation.

QUICK ANSWER

Read the skills first, then assign the role.

SKILL

What the ant does

Damage, healing, shielding, control, debuffs, range changes, stat boosts, mitigation, and other effects come from the actual skill text and mechanics.

ROLE

Why it is in the lineup

The role is the practical job those skills create: damage dealer, healer, support, control, defensive anchor, debuffer, or another evidence-backed function.

FIT

How the three ants work together

A strong lineup usually needs complementary jobs. Three individually strong ants can still be a poor formation if their roles overlap or leave a critical job uncovered.

LEARN MORE

Common combat functions TAUKS looks for.

Attack / DamageProduces direct or skill damage and benefits from staying alive long enough to trigger the relevant skills.
Healing / SustainRestores health or extends the lineup's effective survival so other ants can keep working.
SupportImproves teammates through buffs, shields, protection, mitigation, or other enabling effects.
Control / DebuffReduces what the enemy can do through control, vulnerability, damage reduction, stat reduction, or other disruption.
Defensive functionAbsorbs or reduces pressure and helps preserve the rest of the formation.
Special mechanicsRange changes, poison/bleed, trigger conditions, target rules, and other unique effects can define how an ant must be positioned or paired.

PRACTICAL CHECK

Use this order when evaluating a Special Ant.

  1. Confirm the ant's troop class and season.
  2. Read the verified skill effects rather than relying on reputation or tier lists.
  3. Identify the ant's primary combat function and any important secondary function.
  4. Check skill range, trigger conditions, targets, and position requirements.
  5. Ask which jobs the other two ants already cover.
  6. Only then decide whether the ant improves the lineup.

TAUKS ROLE RULE

Class and role stay separate.

Shooter, Carrier, Guardian, and Universal identify compatibility or troop class. They do not automatically tell you whether the ant is an attacker, healer, support ant, control ant, or defensive specialist.

TAUKS therefore stores class and combat function as different fields. When the skill evidence is incomplete, the role stays Needs More Data.

GO DEEPER

Use roles with development and formation context.
