ANTS SCHOOLHOUSE · FORMATION BASICS

Front, Middle & Back

Position is not just a label. It changes how long a squad is exposed, what it can protect, and whether a Special Ant's skill kit can do its intended job.

QUICK ANSWER

Think of the lineup as three jobs.

FRONT

Takes pressure first

The Front squad is normally exposed earliest. It usually needs enough durability, mitigation, control, or disruption to keep the rest of the formation functioning.

MIDDLE

Connects the formation

The Middle squad often balances survival with damage or support. It may need enough protection to keep important skills cycling while still contributing meaningful output.

BACK

Protected longest

The Back squad is usually protected longer and is often a natural home for damage or support that benefits from surviving deeper into the fight.

TAUKS rule: these are formation principles, not automatic ant assignments. A specific ant is only locked to Front, Middle, or Back when its skill evidence and testing support that placement.

LEARN MORE

Why a position can change the result.

Skill range mattersAn ant can have strong damage on paper yet lose value if its important skills cannot reach the intended enemy squad from its assigned position.
Survival time mattersA fragile damage or support ant may perform poorly if placed where it is removed before its skills can trigger often enough.
Team interaction mattersShielding, healing, control, debuffs, damage amplification, and other effects can make the best position depend on the other two ants in the lineup.
PvP and PvE are different testsA formation that produces excellent damage against a repeatable PvE-style target may not prove the same placement is strongest against another player's formation.

PRACTICAL CHECK

Before moving an ant, ask four questions.

  1. Does the ant need to survive early pressure to do its job?
  2. What range do its important skills require?
  3. Is it mainly absorbing pressure, enabling teammates, or producing damage?
  4. Does moving it improve the whole three-ant formation, not just that ant's personal damage?
